Saturday morning dawned and the rain of yesterday is replaced by perfect sunshine. Gergely is due in at 9am so I made sure everything was ready to go.

I gave the car a quick once over, checking suspension bolts, steering and fluids, everything seems fine so off I go.

I arrived at the station at 9 and Gergely was already waiting, somehow he recognised me, I'm not sure how though :)

We had a quick chat and got him strapped in, I had a spare helmet but it's a bit icky, I really should look into getting another large helmet for the passenger.

My plan was to take a gentle through town route and get to the better open country sections where I could open it up, we set off from the station and got to the first roundabout, I pulled away cleanly and went for 2nd but only found neutral, no matter what I tried I could only get neutral or first. I took the sensible option of pulling into the next retail park to check the engine end linkage, I had a feeling it may have come loose. When I checked everything was as it should be so I figured on heading back to the garage and checking it there.

With only first gear it was a bit louder than normal but cruising at 40 in 1st with 3,000 rpm to go was fun! I opened it up once or twice so Gergely got an idea of speed.

Back at the garage I removed the tunnel cover and my worst fears were realised, cable number 2 had snapped. This was quite a problem as the car was booked in with PDQ to get the PCIII mapped. It also meant Gergely had travelled a massive distance for a very short drive. He did manage to ask lots of questions but I really felt sorry for him.

Gergely has emailed over the pictures he took and a small video that caught the moment the cable went south.
