After the fun of the SVA test registration was a breeze. I got a phonecall from Paul the following day, he had received it and was on the case with Reading DVLA to get me an appointment as soon as he could. I was very suprised to get a call that afternoon from Reading DVLA to offer me an appointment at lunch time the following Wednesday! I made sure the car was still exactly as it was at SVA and drove it to the centre. DVLA had confirmed that I was legally entitled to drive the car to the VOSA centre in Newbury so who was I to argue! The road between Andover and Newbury is a fantastic A road, pretty much NSL all the way with some fun twisty bits so I got a chance to drive the car where it was designed to go instead of on a motorway! The examination was a farce really, all the DVLA man checked was the numbers on the engine block and the chassis, exactly the same thing that had been checked at SVA but that's bureaucracy for you! Ten minutes after arriving I was told that my age related plate was ok and my cherished number would be assigned to the car. At least I could inform the guys at MSM that I knew the number plate! On the way home I managed to open the car up, the roads were much emptier and I didn't have to get anywhere by a certain time so I had some fun without deviating from my route home. All I can say is this car is an absolute blast, totally balanced and so fast. I was amazed at the pull, with all of the "Becs have no torque" waffle from you Boat Anchor powered cars I was expecting to keep stiring gears to keep it going. The 2003 R1 doesn't seem to have an issue, midrange pull is good, high range is just wow, unfortunately the journey home was over far too quickly! 3 days later I received my Tax and paperwork from DVLA so now I can drive it legally! I suppose that means the build side of the diary comes to an end, from now on I'll be putting entries into the Driving section of the site! |
