| Tidying the arches and other bits |

I had to remount the arches today as I made a little booboo, I put them on the wrong way round! Redrilling the holes was interesting but they line up nicely and now I won't get the "You fitted them back to front" comments! I asked on locostbuilders if anyone had a template for the bonnet catches. Steve from Team Hellfire pointed me at one on his website which has spot on measurements. The gap between the very bottom and the very top rivet is 55.5mm. I've hosted the picture here, with permission from team hellfire. The rear ride height now has the rear lip 290mm from the ground, with the arches fitted I started on the lights. I masked up the rear wings and drew a horizontal line 410mm from the ground. I then marked the centre holes 70 and 210 mm from the main tub. The screw holes are 80mm apart so I marked them onto the line. With the holes marked I drilled them and used the foam gasket as a template, with the light surrounds fitted the hole doesn't need to be quite that big, I think my holes worked out at just under 6cm across but I'll confirm that using a piece of cutout fibreglass. The lights came with 2 plastic sleeves to space the light out from the panel, I didn't use them as they held the bottom of the surround away from the bodywork. I plugged them all in and tested the indicators, brake and sidelights to see what worked. It looks like I need to do a bit of a rewire at the fusebox as things are in totally the wrong place! The brake light is on the horn fuse even though the wiring diagram says it goes somewhere else! Fortunately I plugged all of the fuses in when I couldn't get the brake lights to work as tracing that problem would be fun! I have a dodgy bayonet on one of the brake/side lights, the bulb wobbles in the socket making/breaking connections from time to time. I didn't take any pictures as the camera battery was flat but I'll take some next time I'm in the garage. With everything working I decided to fire the engine up as it hadn't been started since the easiout removal incident. It fired up and the oil pressure gauge showed a healthy reading at idle. Jeff took a couple of mp4 videos, the first without exhaust, the second with. The second video the engine only revved up to 6k, 11,000rpm should be interesting! |
