When a wise man tells you that things will take twice as long as you budget it's advisable to listen to him. At the end of day one I'd only managed to get 4 bulkhead panels notched and loose fitted and I must admit I was a bit fed up. Cheap tools do not work, 10 HSS drill bits for £4 may sound like a bargain but you soon realise why! I now have 4 complete drill bits, 1 is blunt though. The other 6 are in bits after snapping in the chassis rails.
Day 2 was much more productive. By midday I had fitted the bulkhead panels and started riveting, my what fun that is!! Brake lines have been run to the rear t-piece and p-clipped along the transmission tunnel. I've p-clipped every 6 inches of pipe length, I'm not sure if that's overkill, I know the SVA looks for that distance but I'm not sure if it's 6 inches between clips or 6 inches of pipe length (if that makes sense?) My first stumbling block was with the front t-piece. The build manual chassis is different to my RT+ and the mounting suggestion shows a gap between the suspension mounting plinth and the suggested mounting point, I don't have this gap so attempting to mount it there was no good as it would foul on the shock bolts. A quick call to Marc confirmed that I'd have to mount it at an angle on that bar. Now that I know there are differences in the chassis I can look for other ways to do things if they don't look the same.
My brother in law arrived late in the afternoon and helped with the fitting of the brake lines, he soon moved on to fitting the master cylinders so that we can tidy up the last of the brake lines.
Jobs for tomorrow include purchasing some nuts and bolts so that I can put things together properly, finish the brake lines, route the fuel pipes and hopefully get the loom fitted. Some pictures from today.
