I didn't realise how much time had passed since submitting an update.
Unfortunately not alot has happened car wise, well, nothing good anyway. We've moved house so the Vortx is tucked up in a new home and it's one that has permanent power!!

I've had a couple of passengers since registration, the last was my Mum, which was quite interesting! She didn't like 70 :(

I tried to take my Dad out but there was a strange noise and vibration coming from the front suspension area. On closer examination we found that if the front offside wheel went backwards then the wheel locked, which was scary! The culprit was tracked down to one of the hub-disc bolt, the locking tabs that hold it in place had snapped off allowing the bolt to unscrew. Not a good thing to happen! I've now removed all of the lock tabs and replaced them with schnoor washers and have put indicator marks on the nuts so I can check their movement!

The drive up to the new was fairly uneventful, it didn't take long for the Vortx to be tucked up in it's new home. Unfortunately it hasn't moved since. I went out to the car on the Tuesday after the move to go for a quick spin, only to find that the battery was dead. It looks like the wonderous Odyssey battery has failed which is a bit of a pain, especially with the cost of them!
I've contacted MNR as the battery has a 2 year warranty and am now waiting for some contact from the battery people to arrange replacement.

Whilst I'm waiting I'm going to start the fitting of the Koso Dash, I need to move it so that I can actually see how fast I'm going!

After the fun of the SVA test registration was a breeze.
Once I had the MAC I sent it off to Paul Jepson by Special Delivery, I was taking no chance of Royal Mail screwing up my registration!

I got  a phonecall from Paul the following day, he had received it and was on the case with Reading DVLA to get me an appointment as soon as he could. I was very suprised to get a call that afternoon from Reading DVLA to offer me an appointment at lunch time the following Wednesday!

I made sure the car was still exactly as it was at SVA and drove it to the centre. DVLA had confirmed that I was legally entitled to drive the car to the VOSA centre in Newbury so who was I to argue! The road between Andover and Newbury is a fantastic A road, pretty much NSL all the way with some fun twisty bits so I got a chance to drive the car where it was designed to go instead of on a motorway!

The examination was a farce really, all the DVLA man checked was the numbers on the engine block and the chassis, exactly the same thing that had been checked at SVA but that's bureaucracy for you!

Ten minutes after arriving I was told that my age related plate was ok and my cherished number would be assigned to the car. At least I could inform the guys at MSM that I knew the number plate!

On the way home I managed to open the car up, the roads were much emptier and I didn't have to get anywhere by a certain time so I had some fun without deviating from my route home. All I can say is this car is an absolute blast, totally balanced and so fast. I was amazed at the pull, with all of the "Becs have no torque" waffle from you Boat Anchor powered cars I was expecting to keep stiring gears to keep it going. The 2003 R1 doesn't seem to have an issue, midrange pull is good, high range is just wow, unfortunately the journey home was over far too quickly!

3 days later I received my Tax and paperwork from DVLA so now I can drive it legally!

I suppose that means the build side of the diary comes to an end, from now on I'll be putting entries into the Driving section of the site!

This website follows the build of my Yamaha R1 engined MNR Vortx RT+
At the moment there are not that many MNR cars on the road, my chassis number is 44 so finding information is not the easiest of things to do. Hopefuly my trials and tribulations may make building the car easier for you. My email details are on the contact me page if you have any questions, comments or suggestions then please fire them over!
